ABOUT US

Creating a better way to age while remaining in your home among friends, neighbors, and family.

Come join us...

You could call it the lightbulb moment—literally. A bulb burns out in that hard-to-reach spot at the top of the stairs, and that’s when you realize you’re dependent on others for the simplest of household chores.

In 2010, a handful of us gathered together to come up with a way to collectively change that light bulb—and not just change the bulb. We wanted to build a community that was rich in social interaction, vibrant with physical activities and wellness programs, with a wealth of educational and cultural opportunities and excursions.

Our mission, in short, was—and remains—simple: to redefine how and where we age by providing services and programming to empower seniors to grow older in the homes and neighborhoods that they love.

Three years later, we launched Shoreline Village CT as a nonprofit member-led community of active, resourceful, and forward-thinking people dedicated to helping each other age in place while secure in the knowledge that we could deal with almost any contingency, large and small, without having to rely solely on relatives or friends.

With the support of paid and volunteer help, we provide, as free services, transportation to and from medical and other appointments, as well as other errands; assistance with simple home repairs or chores like rolling trash cans to the street; and daily check-in calls. We also have on hand a list of vetted providers for plumbing, electrical, or carpentry issues.

Thanks to a generous grant, our Senior Safety Program has helped members cover the costs of home improvements to keep their homes safe, affording them the resources to widen doorways, accommodate wheelchairs, and install railings on stairs, sensor lights, and lever-style doorknobs, to name a few.

True to our participation in the village movement pioneered by Beacon Hill Village, we tailor our programs to the shifting needs and preferences of our members, from hiking club to book group to fiery Mahjong competitions and fitness and flexibility classes, from opera talks and art lectures, to “tea & talk gatherings” on the town green and service projects around the community.

The one constant: we’ll be there to change that light bulb.
